Your detergent uses enzymes, doesn't that damage the fabric?
Not Defunkify! The source of the enzymes matter tremendously and we exclusively use only the highest quality. Enzymes and odors are like keys and locks. You need the right enzyme to unlock (break apart) all the different odor molecules that are stuck in your clothing. After the molecules are broken apart, the surfactants in our detergent wash the odor molecules away.
What is the difference between your powder and liquid detergents?
Both powder and liquid formulations contain a comprehensive enzyme system for effective odor and stain removal. The primary differences relate to additional functional components and application flexibility.
The powder formulation includes a color-safe oxygen-based bleach alternative, making it particularly effective for maintaining brightness in white fabrics. Powder detergents are also generally advantageous for removing particulate soils such as dirt, grass, and other organic matter.
The liquid formulation offers multiple fragrance options, as well as a fragrance-free (“free and clear”) alternative. Liquids provide practical benefits for pretreatment, as they can be applied directly to stains prior to washing. They are especially effective for oily or greasy stains due to their surfactant system and ease of localized application.

- Can Defunkify powdered detergent be used to clean down garments and down comforters?
- Thanks for asking. Yes, our products are safe for all fabrics, including down. Because they can be used in any water temperature, you can use our detergents wih gentle and delicate cycles, or to hand wash.
- You originally had a product that not only cleaned the fabric but also kept it from needing to be washed as often. It came in a blue, two part packet. Is that product still available?
- Hi Chris, you are referring to our Fabric Treatment. Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued.
- We recently moved to a house with a septic system, and I heard we shouldn't use powdered laundry detergent. Is yours safe for septic systems, or should we switch to your liquid detergent? Thanks!

- Will you be making a scented powdered version anytime soon? I love your products and the smell of the lavender liquid detergent but am looking to reduce the use of plastics. Would adding essential oils to the powdered formula change its effectiveness?
- Hi Amy, great question. We don't have current plans to make a scented powdered detergent at the moment. Our Powdered Detergent can be mixed with our Liquid Detergent with great results if you wanted to do 2/3 part Powder, 1/3 part Liquid to extend the life of the liquid detergent but still get some of the benefits and scent of the liquid.
